CKBA Survives OCCCI Rally to Take 86–82 U18 Thriller


CEBU CITY, Philippines — CKBA kept its perfect start intact after holding off a furious OCCCI Junior Sheermasters comeback, 86–82, in an exciting U18 Final of the Jr. Metro Cebu Basketball League at Paref Springdale, Cebu.

CKBA appeared firmly in control early, building a 19–17 lead after the opening quarter before extending its advantage to 46–38 at halftime.

But OCCCI refused to go quietly.

Led by a spectacular offensive surge, the Junior Sheermasters erupted for 22 points in the third quarter while limiting CKBA to just 14, completely erasing the eight-point halftime deficit and entering the final period tied at 60-all CKBA then answered in the fourth.

The two teams battled possession for possession, but CKBA regained its composure and produced 26 points in the final period, compared with OCCCI's 22, to escape with the four-point victory.

Villaceran leads OCCCI's charge

OCCCI's Dirk Andrie Villaceran delivered the game's biggest individual scoring performance, pouring in 31 points on an efficient 13-of-22 shooting from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded a steal.

Adonis Martin Dañosa added 22 points on an impressive 8-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-7 from three-point range, while Ian Matthew Neduelan contributed 10 points.
Despite the strong individual performances, OCCCI could not complete the comeback.

CKBA gets balanced scoring

CKBA countered with a balanced offensive attack.

Johan Matuguina led the winners with 19 points and 11 rebounds, posting a double-double while shooting 9-of-17 from the field.

Lance Alilin added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Patrick Pepito provided a huge spark off the bench with 14 points, going 6-of-7 from the field. EJ Arranguez chipped in 10 points on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting.

CKBA also held a slight advantage on the boards, 29–26, while both teams finished with nine turnovers.

Fourth-quarter composure makes the difference

The game ultimately came down to CKBA's ability to withstand OCCCI's momentum.

After surrendering an eight-point halftime lead and seeing the game tied heading into the fourth, CKBA responded with its highest-scoring quarter of the game.
The result: an 86–82 victory and a 2–0 record, while OCCCI Junior Sheermasters dropped to 3–1.
